Statom Group recently attended The World’s Biggest Mega Builds, hosted by Fred Mills of The B1M, bringing together the industry to celebrate some of the incredible projects being delivered around the world.
Fred is driving an important message through his “Make Construction Famous” campaign — changing the way our industry is perceived and inspiring the next generation to see construction as an exciting and rewarding career.
And it’s a message we strongly support at Statom.
The UK is facing a serious skilled workforce challenge. We need to attract more young people, bring far more women into construction, invest in apprenticeships and skills, and show people where a career in this industry can take them.
Construction gives people the opportunity to work on extraordinary projects. At Statom, our teams are involved in ports, airports, energy-from-waste facilities, major infrastructure and building thousands of new homes and communities.
There is a huge amount of pride in being able to look at something that will be there for generations and
say: “I helped build that.”
AI and technology will also have an important role in the future workforce. If we can use AI to make compliance, reporting and administration more efficient, we can give our skilled people more time to concentrate on what they do best — engineering, problem-solving and building.
Construction shouldn’t be seen as a second-choice career. It can offer fantastic opportunities, strong earning potential, progression, entrepreneurship and the chance to play a part in some of the country’s most important projects.
Fred’s message is a powerful one.
"We need to celebrate the people who build our world, showcase the opportunities our industry provides and inspire the next generation to want to be part of it."
Let’s Make Construction Famous.
