On Wednesday 12 August, colleagues from across Statom Group gathered on the rooftop at our Vauxhall head office to watch one of the most significant solar eclipses visible from the UK in decades.
The eclipse occurred as the Moon passed between the Earth and the Sun, partially blocking the Sun from view. In London, the eclipse began at approximately 6.17pm and reached its maximum at 7.12pm, when around 90% of the Sun was covered. It ended shortly after 8pm. This was the greatest eclipse coverage seen from the UK and Ireland since 1999.
Colleagues were provided with specialist eclipse glasses so they could view the event safely. The evening also included food and drinks, giving everyone an opportunity to catch up while enjoying the rooftop views across London.
