Tommy Brown, group chairman of Statom Group, has raised more than £77.2k for ECHO, marking an incredible achievement with two days still to go. A huge thank you goes out to everyone within the group who has donated, as well as suppliers, friends and family. Every contribution means a great deal and will make a real difference. Tommy is preparing to run his first marathon this Sunday in support of ECHO. He is currently the second highest fundraiser out of 35,000 charity runners, having already raised over £77.2k, an outstanding total for the charity. He is taking on the challenge in memory of his sister, Linda, who sadly passed away on 26 April last year, the same date as this year’s marathon. ECHO supports families affected by children’s heart conditions who have been treated by Evelina London and Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust congenital heart disease network, which spans 47 hospitals across London, Kent, Essex, Suffolk, Surrey and Sussex, as well as further afield. The charity provides support from the moment of diagnosis through every stage of a family’s journey, including treatment, ongoing care or bereavement. It offers a range of practical services designed to help families when little other support is available. Founded in 1983 by parents of children with heart conditions and the first paediatric cardiologist at Evelina London, ECHO has continued to be led and supported by families with lived experience. Congenital heart disease remains the most common birth defect, affecting just under one in every 100 babies born in the UK.
“As CEO of ECHO, people like Tommy who put one foot in front of the other for families he may never even meet—are truly inspiring. His commitment to reaching out to his network and raising such a significant amount speaks volumes about his character. This challenge is made even more meaningful as he runs in memory of his late sister, Linda. I’ve been proud to support Tommy throughout his training and look forward to seeing first-hand the difference his fundraising will make to children, young people and families. Tommy has a big heart, and he’s showing it every step of the 26.2 miles this Sunday. We’re right behind him.”
Samantha Johnson, CEO of ECHO
